Standing on the Promises

"I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten-the great locust and the young locust, the other locusts and the locust swarm-my great army that I sent among you. You will have plenty to eat, until you are full, and you will praise the name of the Lord your God, who has worked wonders for you; never again will My people be shamed"- Joel 2:25-26 (NIV).

We all walk through our proverbial "valley" sooner or later, but God is faithful, loving and abounding in mercy. He will restore your joy; just ask any one of Jesus' disciples. Imagine the overwhelming joy they felt when they looked into the face of the risen Savior; but, God also restores what was lost, as in today's Scripture. A good example is Job: Job's family, health and wealth, once lost, were restored by the Father; twice as much (Job 42:10). We all will suffer, have suffered or are suffering now, but there is hope in the promises of our Holy Father: "And the God of all grace, Who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast" (1 Peter 5;10). R. Kelso Carter wrote the song Standing on the Promises: "Standing on the promises that cannot fail, when the howling storms of doubt and fear assail, by the living Word of God I shall prevail, Standing on the promises of God" (second verse). God keeps His promises. You can stand on them.
