The Treasure

"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field"- Matthew 13:44 (NIV).

At first blush, it sounds like this man wanted the kingdom of heaven all to himself, unwilling to share or tell anyone about the treasure he had found in the field. I believe the parable speaks strongly about the man having his heart set on giving up everything to possess the treasure, the kingdom. The location of the treasure is relevant; after all it is in a field that a harvest is reaped. The yielded harvest analogy is fruit intended for the kingdom of heaven. Truly our "mission" field, sought and bought with our whole heart, holds the treasure we are building in heaven...a harvest...for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:21).
