"I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow"- 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 (NIV).
We collectively have one purpose: working in God's fields. Some will plant the seed, others will do the watering and, with tender care, God grows the harvest. Field work is hard work, but then the sheaves will be brought in with tears of joy (Psalm 126:6). Gaze out across your workplace, your neighborhood, your community; do you see the people? Their hearts are the fields in which we can plant and water the seed. Some seed won't take root. The devil has his way of snatching away the seed, but plant and water again. Don't grow weary working in God's fields, for the time will come when the season is finished (Galatians 6:9). After the harvest, at the end of the season, we will each receive our wages for the field work we did (1 Corinthians 3:8). We won't be paid for the condition of the field or the growth of the harvest; that's God's part. Our payment comes from our diligence and faithfulness in the work we are commissioned to do. Therefore go (Matthew 28:19-20).
